Read
the Bible in a year |
Today's Bible reading is
John 6, 7
|
If you have ever thought about reading the entire
Bible then here is your chance to take up the challenge. The Bible
is not a single narrative written by one person, as we understand
books today. Think of the Bible as a library. It is a collection
of prophecies, histories, prayers, parables and teaching written
down over many centuries. The writings that were considered the
most sacred and thoses that were mostly used by the Jews and later
the Christians were brought together in what we now know as the
Bible.

The worst thing you have done. Think of the worst thing you have done. Then imagine that you have to write a letter to God asking Him to forgive you. What would you say? You could say that it is the first time you have done it. That would be no good, how many times do you need to do something wrong until you need to ask forgiveness? What if you said that other people do much worse things than you? That's no good either, you can't hide behind what other people do. What about simply writing, "I'm sorry"? If you mean it that is sufficient for God. All we have to say to God when we get things wrong is "I'm sorry". In fact, the good news is that is ALL we have to say. If we say it with all our heart then God promises to forgive us and give us another chance.
| | The hardest words.
Lord God, sometimes the hardest words are "I'm sorry"; to admit that I have done wrong and hurt someone else and you. Please give me the grace and strength to be honest and to receive your forgiveness. Amen.

The Lord's
Prayer |
| (traditional form) |
| |
Our Father, |
who art in heaven, |
hallowed be thy
Name; |
thy kingdom come; |
thy will be done; |
on earth as it is in heaven. |
Give us this day our daily bread. |
And forgive us our trespasses, |
as we forgive those who trespass against us. |
And lead us not into temptation; |
but deliver us from evil. |
For thine is the kingdom, |
the power, and the glory, |
for ever and ever, |
Amen |

The Lord's Prayer |
(modern form) |
| |
Our Father in heaven |
hallowed be your Name, |
your kingdom come, |
your will be done, |
on earth as in heaven. |
Give us today our daily bread. |
Forgive us our sins |
as we forgive those who sin against us. |
Do not bring us to the time of trial |
but deliver us from evil. |
For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are
yours |
now and forever. |
Amen |
